JK Pooka in Cocobolo and Copper with Mosaic

The materials are starting to come in

The blanks arrived, yay!

 They all have the same finish, I think it's a nice one, new pin hole layout as well

 rough cuttign scales

 Yeah, i know, they're rough, but with cocobolo I don't like cutting it to close, it has a tendency to break of splinters and chunks because of the grain when using saws and such

 I cleaned them up on the sanding belt, and got the ricasso area shaped,

 I did some more to prep the scales but didn't get any pictures - hard to break the rhythm sometimes to snap a  pic -  then got them ready to fit on the scales and clamped it all down for the night.

This isn't how it will be clamped down, just hastily held it together for the picture, I clamp it so the whole of the scale is held.

Pretty, right?

Time for a trim

After cleaning it yup from 100 to 220 grit the finer edges get more detailed hand sanding an filing to clean up

especially around the ricasso area

Hand sanding to start gettign the scale sin shape startig back at 80 grit

Aftera  lot more hand sanding and building through the grtons from 80 to 100, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, I take a look at the details againa nd treat the wiood with klinseed oil to see how it's looking.

I may find somethign I'm not happy with and go back to a certain pooint to fix it but for right now it's looking good, really like the mosaic. The wood has a deep rich colour, it's not as red as the last cocbolo I used but this one sure is good looking. The light in my shop isn't great for pictures I'm afraid so not a lot of the color shows.

I'll let it sit overnight again and take a look in the morning wth fresh eyes before I finish it up and start on the sheath,

 It's late and I'm full of turkey ;)

Well, I was wrong about that colour, in the day light the red is very visible in this cocobolo, it's deep, rich and I like it!

There is a small area where I can see some lower grit scratches at the ricasso end of the left scale, I'll have to go back on the grits there to smooth it out, not sure you can see it in the pictures

Other then that. it's on to the sheath.
